Starfish

by Peter Watts

Free science fiction eBook featuring the main character Clarke, a deep-ocean physically altered worker at a power station located on the ocean’s bottom.

Description

Starfish, Watts’s first novel, is an excellent work of dystopian fiction that plays out on the ocean floor where thermal energy is collected for an energy-starved world. Crew members chosen to man the underwater habitats on the bottom of the ocean are abuse survivors cybernetically altered to survive at extreme depths. All sorts of abuse survivors work at the power station – PTSD, pedophiles, and violent criminals – with the notion that if they managed to survive the worst afflictions humanity has to offer, they would be able to overcome the severe stress and isolation of working at extreme depths. A cool read.

A must read for any hard core sci-fi writer. Not only is the science accurate, but the characters are so strong the story is like jumping into a fast moving river and you are in for the ride of your life. Follow this series.
